QUESTION

What is the standard waiting time for I-130?

Asked on Jul 30th, 2014 on Immigration - Texas
More details to this question:
My wife is US citizen, and after we get married we submitted I-130 which was received 19 December 2013 and until now we are still waiting. The status of our application is initial review and we never received anything from immigration except the first letter saying that they received our application. Right now my wife with me in Canada, but she is planning to move back to USA which depends on the immigration decision. IS THIS NORMAL TO WAIT THAT LONG? It has been almost a year and nothing happened.

All depends. Can take up to a year. You were supposed to receive some notices from USCIS, so you should call their customer service and get the updates.

If you're Canadian, why not just come here as a visitor and file the proper papers here, if you want to live here. No reason to be waiting in Canada if you're marital home is in the USA. The I-130 can typically take up to a year, right now.
