What should I do if my I-94 has expired?

More details to this question:
On my last entrance to the US, my passport was about to expire, and therefore the officer gave me short period for stay on my I-94. By the time I extended the passport, the I-94 expired. The Visa (L2) is still valid. What should I do now?

Contrary to a common misconception, a visa does not entitle you to remain in the U.S. - an admission does. The expiration date on your visa denotes the latest date when you may enter the U.S. How long you may remain in the U.S. and in what status is noted on the Form I-94, the small white card that an immigration inspector attached to your passport when he/she admitted you into the U.S. Usually, an inspector also stamps admission on one of the pages of your passport. The stamp says "Admitted until.
