QUESTION

Will 3-4 charges of shoplifting misdemeanors affect me from getting citizenship?

Asked on Nov 06th, 2014 on Immigration - New York
More details to this question:
I have about 3-4 charges of shoplifting, all misdemeanors when I was 18 yrs. - 20 yrs. old. I am now 28 yrs. old. I also have a DUI misdemeanor as well from 2008. The most recent charge I have on me is a possession of marijuana (less than a gram) and paraphernalia misdemeanor charge from 2 yrs. ago. My green card expired 2 yrs. ago and need to either renew or apply for citizenship, or better yet, marry my fiancรฉ soon. Will I turned down when I apply? Thank you so much for the help :)PSthis has been eating my alive and preventing me from getting my green card renewed or applying for citizenship. I was/am too afraid to apply for either because of my criminal background, I do not want to get deported back to my country, and I have been living here for 18 yrs. now. Thanks.

Much will depend on when the convictions occurred and whether you pled guilty or had a trial. You need to gather your criminal records and have an attorney review them with you during a consultation.
