It appears as if your boyfriend was convicted of a felony because he was sentenced to jail for more than 1 year. It's probably likely that ICE will try to deport him as soon as he has completed his jail sentence.

It depends on the charges that he was convicted of. Some criminal charges will make him inadmissible, some immediately removable (deportable) and others will have no effect on his immigration status.

You need to get as much detailed information as possible about your boyfriend's criminal and immigration case. With the information, you should have an in depth consultation with an experienced immigration attorney. The fact that he is presently incarcerated suggests that he may already be subject of a deportation order or that he will be placed into deportation proceedings either before or once he has completed his state prison term. The time to hire an attorney is while your boyfriend is still physically present in the US.
