Had a contractor come to the house for an estimate. I was not home but my 23 year old was. While going back in the house my dogs got out, and one of the dogs bit the employee..slight puncture on left arm, slight scratch on left leg. I came home and offered medical attention that I would pay for, and the person bit refused medical attention, and said he may miss a day from work. He proceeded to complete the estimate that I had called for. I asked for his phone number, and the other person there gave me his number. Apparently he is the owner of the company. I offered the person who was bit a beer he accepted as did the owner, as well as another beer each. I said if he needed anything for ointment or bandages to let me know and I would pay for them. Then they left. Later on that evening I got an email from the owner saying you offered to send money, and I asked how much. The owner wants 15k and medical bills, and he wasn't bit
Possible? Sure, if they claim that you were negligent and somehow caused the company a loss of revenue due to the employees injury. That seems far fetched from the facts you are describing. I would report this to your homeowners insurer and see if they will cover it or at least provide a defense lawyer to to respond. Otherwise, you will likely need to spend some money on a civil trial lawyer to address this issue directly. There seems to be something missing here that a contractor is just randomly demanding $15,000.00 + medical bills for an "employee" that doesn't seem to have done much damage wise.
