QUESTION

Roofing Contract with an assignment of benefits clause

Asked on Apr 01st, 2020 on Insurance - Florida
More details to this question:
A roofer has said he can get my insurance to cover the cost of a new roof for just my $2,500 insurance deductible. The contract doesn't specify a start date a must be done date, etc. In other words I wouldn't sign it as is. My concern is they will meet with the insurance adjuster and they get approved they get the check. Since there is no price quoted in the contract they wanted me to sign just say my insurance gave me $20,000 and they put a $10K roof on it they keep the money. When you are dealing with insurance Alone and the insurance agrees to pay you for a roof, do they give you the money and then you can pick your own roofer and if ithere is any money left you keep it or do they require a price from whoever you pick and then they pay only that amount? I,m not looking to come out with money left but I want the best roof I can get for whatever amount the insurance agrees to

If you assign the benefits and claim to them, they control it all. You may want look elsewhere for a roofer before you sign anything.
