Can a link to a website be copyright infringement? How?

More details to this question:
If I include a tradename in a link to a company website without their permission, does this constitute copyright infringement?

No, but it could be trademark infringement, especially if the company doesn't want to let you install the link. Check with the company to see what its policy is on this matter.

Using a trade name may be a violation of trademark laws - as confusion regarding association or sponsorship may arise. If you want to make a link to a website - get written permission from the owner of the site. If you want to use a trade name - get written permission from the owner. Get permission or don't do it - if you want to avoid potential issues.
