More details to this question:
Hello. Someone is claiming to have a copyright on a technique using perler beads. Perler beads are put on a peg board and melted to create a design. He is claiming that he has copyrighted a technique to melt and shape the beads into an oval to form a lighter case. To my understanding you cannot copyright a technique. Can he legally take me to court because I used a technique similar to his to create a lighter case?

You are correct, that such a technique cannot be protected by copyright. If protectable at all, it would have to be by a method patent.
