Asked on Nov 05th, 2014 on Patents - Oklahoma
More details to this question:
A friend has a business in which she adds custom couture designs to shoes. Recently some people helping her have walked with her property and began to copy her techniques. Is there anything that she can do, such as copyright her work/techniques or patent her method to prevent this from happening?

If her technique has not been used for over one year, then patent protection on the technique may be possible. As for the designs themselves, they would be subject to copyright protection if they do not relate to structural features of the shoes (in which case design patent protection may be obtainable). To enforce the copyright, the designs would need to be registered with the Copyright Office.
