Does your ideas for movies have protection?

More details to this question:
I was emailing a film consultant and gave him story plots for a movie he was involved in. And the producers used my ideas without my knowledge, neither was I compensated. can I sue for damages? Its a major motion picture.

Generally, no. Unless there is something special about the way you communicated the idea to others, an idea is not protected.
