More details to this question:
I was wondering how close to a current business name can a future (in the next few months) non profit be? I have done some looking and the name isn't currently taken but it is very close to the name of the business name "cartoon network". Thanks for your help.

Be distinctive! Business names should stand out from the crowd - not be similar to one already being used. In fact, if too similar, the owner of the first name can sue for "unfair competition" - since customers might confuse your company name with the first company's name - assuming some affiliation between the two entities. Pick a great business name that is yours alone.

The fact that you?re concerned about this tells me you already know that the names may be too identical. The better question might be: will your customers/clients/etc. identify with your nonprofit or the for-profit business when they hear the name you want to use.
