QUESTION

What are my rights for material I produced in a Private NY University Master's Program.

More details to this question:
Last year I graduated from a private university in new york. I received a post profesional master of architecture. I participated in a competition with the work i did in the M.arch. I won second prize. My university has become ridiculous in the crediting of the work. In place of my and my fellow team members names as the title of who won the prize they want the program name placed on the competition website. I have no problem crediting them but I believe they have gone way to far. Do I have any rights? Can I tell my University I will not make the changes. I entered the competition to promote myself and did not pay almost $1500 in exhibition fees for them to take all the glory now. Is there anything I can do or do I have to do whatever the dean says?

There are two issues at play here: 1) Intellectual property law 2) What effect refusal would have on your relationship with the University. The first is simple: what does your contract say about IP or crediting? If it says nothing, they have no rights. The second is more complex.
