If you have a patentable invention, it can cost anywhere from $6000 to $25,000 to obtain patent protection in most instances, depending on: 1) the counsel you employ; 2) the complexity of the invention; and 3) how hard you wish to fight for the broadest possible claims. Alternatively, you could file for patent protection on your own and receive a patent for less than $1000, although you create greater risk for failing to obtain the patent or obtaining a patent of limited value because of your lack of experience.
