QUESTION

When should you reapply for a patent? How?

More details to this question:
I think the design patent ends in two years. Can I reapply for one? How far in advance do we need to do this?

You cannot renew a patent like that.

You cannot reapply for an issued patent. Once the term has expired, a patent goes into the public domain. Pending applications can be refiled over and over - until the patent issues or you give up.

You cannot obtain a patent on what was claimed in a prior patent- that effectuate extending the patent term which is contrary to the patent statutes and intent of patent law.

You can't reapply for a patent. Once it's over, anyone can make, use, and distribute the invention or design.
