QUESTION

6 yr old paycheck found

Asked on Feb 11th, 2014 on Employment Contracts - Massachusetts
More details to this question:
I found a paycheck from 6 yrs ago never cashed from my former employer. It was for my last 2 weeks of work, about $1,400. The state gov unclaimed property does not have me listed on their website. Bank teller would not cash it, I went to the bank the check is drawn from. Sent a copy of the check via certified return receipt mail and I know they received it. Haven't heard from them to see if they will reissue me a new check. Are they required to do so?

Have you tried to bring the issue with your former employer? because they're the ones who owe you the money, and is it really past 6 years? because the Statute of Limitations on contract actions may bar your recovery (like in a small claims action against your former employer)
