QUESTION

Accrued vacation time in FL

Asked on Apr 09th, 2013 on Labor and Employment - Florida
More details to this question:
I'm considering giving a 1 month notice to my employer upon acceptance of a better offer. The new employer is in the same industry but across the country and cannot be classified as a competitor. However, I've seen cases where my current employer has terminated employment of others when they provided notice upon accepting a position with another employer in the same industry. Is my current employer required to pay my salary during my month notice along with accrued vacation time if they decide to terminate my employement immediately? I live in FL and my current employer is located in FL.

It would depend if you had a written contract.  If you do not, then they can terminate you tomorrow with no liabilty so long as its not based on race, religion, national origen, sex, etc.
