I was offered employment by a hospital. I signed the contract as well. Then, I did the background check. The background check took a little longer than expected. I found out I had a warrant for not paying a traffic fine. So I paid 500 dollars to clear it. She just needed documentation stating that the court case is over. I had no clue about a warrant for a traffic ticket in AR. Well, the paperwork for the background check was all completed and it was due February 9, 2018 because orientation was February 12, 2018. She called me February 6, 2018 and said "Can you maybe bring it Thursday just in case we need something else. Well, I told her that I just got clearance from the warrant in AR by fax, that's all I was waiting on. Well she then stated she is recending my employment because I did not tell her ab the unpaid fine. I said to her that I did not know but saved money and paid for it. This fine is ten years old. I just kept telling her that everything was taken care of.
Tennessee is an employmenta-at-will state wehre an employer can fire or refuse to hire you for any reason. While this may seem unfair, I do not see anything in these facts that show the employer's actions were unlawful.
