Hello, My former employer filed a civil case against me to recover moving expenses he paid to move me and my family from CA to NC lat year. I have worked there for about 6 months but because of several reasons I hated the job, I couldn't even perform duties I was hired to do , I quit. There was nothing in my contract that I signed about me repaying any expenses or that I would have to work there for certain period of time. Does he have any bases to get anywhere with this? He claims that it was a scheme from my end to get hired and then quit so my move is paid for, which is a total lie.
Yes he could file a civil action against you. There are a couple of theories that he could make use of including breach of contract. You should consult with an attorney if he has filed a lawsuit against you as time is running out.
