4 months ago I had some heart issues the company I work for has short term disability that I qualified for and the cardiologist has me on a no work restriction. the issue is the short term will end at six months ( I applied for ssi disability but I hear that can be time consuming) after the short term ends am I considered unemployed ? If the company says we will wait until your condition improves does that just leave me in no mans land ? if I resign would I stand a chance at unemployment ?
No. Unemployment requires you to be able to apply and seek work. In my experience, resigning is pretty much an automatic disqualifier that you then have an uphill battle to climb. I would encourage you to contact a SSD attorney, but you may also be able to apply for long term disability benefits.
