Around this time last year, I went to a store with my "friend" and we took a combined total of $54 worth of merchandise. It wasn't my smartest decision, I know. I was 17 at the time and was issued a ticket I believe to go to the municipal court of the city the store was located in. I plead Nolo Contendre. They put me through a 21 and under program which consisted of me writing a 10 page paper, 20 hours of community service and an apology letter to my mother and the store. I completed that and was given a fine but I was given the choice to instead take probation and complete 140 hours of community service. I did that and got off probation on April 30th, 2014. I heard that it would be hard to get into college with this on my record but I got in very easily. Now I'm trying to get a job and they're asking for a background check. It didn't show up for the schools I don't believe. Will it show up to the employers?
there is no law governing this, so you have not asked a legal question that I may answer. Each employer is free to set their own rules, and discriminate as they wish against individuals with criminal histories.
