Can we obtain our W-2 forms? How?

More details to this question:
I worked for a company that is now out of business. We are now unable to receive our W-2s and final paystubs from the payroll company. What can we do?

The easiest thing is if you kept your paystubs or they are available online. You can determine all the information on the W-2 from your final paystub. If the company filed the W-2 forms with the Social Security Administration (no, they don't get filed with the IRS. Yes, I agree that's a stupid system. They do it because the government is dysfunctional, inefficient and self-serving) then you can request copies from the SSA (I guess you can always REQUEST copies whether the company filed or not but you'll only GET copies from the SSA if they were filed in the first place). If you didn't save your paystubs and you can't get the info from SSA, then you need to hire a tax lawyer and reconstruct your income to file an tax return.
