Employment Agreement Extension Amendment

More details to this question:
Suppose you have an Employment Contract that ends on 31st March 2015, is it technically correct to give that Employee on the 23rd March 2015 an amendment that is effective 1st March 2015 for an extension up till end of December 2015? or should the extension be effective only from 1st April 2015 ?

Agreements are often effective "as of" a date which is before they are signed.
