This depends on what your health issues are and how much time you may need to be off due to the health issues. If you are considered to have a disability as defined under the ADA (limitations on a major life activity that would last approximately 6 months or longer) and only need to be off for a few weeks or couple of months, then the employer may have to accommodate you. You would need to consult with an employment law attorney to determine if you would qualify under the protections of the ADA
