QUESTION

Hostile Work Environment

Asked on Jan 08th, 2014 on Labor and Employment - North Carolina
More details to this question:
Myself and another healthcare employee resigned our positions because we refused as managers to discriminate against employees based on race. I worked for the company less than 6 months, received pay raise and two bonuses during that time for excellent work but all went sour when I questioned and refused to break the law. I was also told to not be compliant state policy and procedures. The company is a franchise of a large company which is internationally known. I have filled for unemployment based on the above listed issues and also spoken with the EEOC and upon their review am in the process of submitting a formal complaint for investigation. This entire issue has caused me severe distress as I am out of work and it has caused me physical illness. Do I have any recourse for doing the right thing and refusing to discriminate?

This could be a violation of the law if you were terminated in retaliation for a protected activity.  I recommend that you speak with an experienced employment attorney as soon as possible and, in any case, before you file with the EEOC.  The EEOC is not your advocate.
