How can I do a self background check?

One recent prospective employer turned me down after a failed background check. I really want to know the details and how I can fix them for any more future employment.

Yes, however employment background checks are so varied in their nature and sources that it is often very difficult to find out what piece of information was a disqualifying factor for any position.
