How do I ccess my IRA funds?

More details to this question:
I am presently unemployed and would like to have access to my funds to help with living expenses, bills, etc. I seems unfair that I can't access the very money that I earned and put away.

You own your IRA and have the right to withdraw the funds at any time, subject only to the terms on any investment contract you signed. Your employer is not a party to the account.
