QUESTION

How do I legally protect myself when babysitting?

Asked on Nov 19th, 2012 on Employment Contracts - California
More details to this question:
Im considering a job offer which would include picking up 2 children from school and then transporting back to my home for about two hrs before they are picked up. What can I do to ensure I wont be sued in the event the children are injured during my care? What other info can u provide me in order to protect myself . Should there be an employment conyract made up? Also, if caring for children in my home does that make me an independent contractor? Do I have to be licensed to just care for 2 children for 2 hrs 2Days a week?

In a few words, there is nothing you can do to protect yourself if you are babysitting and some kind of injury ensues. No matter what you do, you wil still be personally liable for any death or personal injury that results from your negligence. You should have lots of insurance.
