QUESTION

Is colorblindness covered by EEOC or the Disability Act?

Asked on Jan 29th, 2013 on Labor and Employment - Pennsylvania
More details to this question:
I am partially color blind and have been told I cannot become a police officer, even though I know of officers who have the same condition. I am otherwise healthy, have a bachelor's degree and have no criminal background. I passed written tests, a physical fitness test and even put through after my background interview with an investigator. Am I covered by the Disabilities Act (whether color blindness is or is not one) or EEOC from being discriminated against for the position of police officer? Thanks for your help.

It is possible that your situation might be covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). You should consult with a lawyer so that you can discuss in detail the situation and potential legal ramifications. Sara A. AustinAustin Law Firm LLC226 E.
