It may not be illegal, but if they are sexual in nature or threatening, then they could be illegal. Regardless, if the recipient doesn't want the texts, you may be violating company policy.

It is probably not illegal (unless there are sexting issues etc. ) but if may be against company policy.

It likely would depend on what you said in the text.

It would depend on the messages and whether they are unwelcome. Has your co-worker complained about the messages?

It is not illegal for you to send text messages to coworkers, as long you are not harassing or threatening them. In other words, you shouldn't go to jail or get sued for it. However, it is also not illegal for an employer to tell you not to send text messages to coworkers.?

no, it is not illegal. It is completely legal. However, employers may adopt rules that prohibit this, and you may be discharged for violating the employer rule, albeit perfectly legal activity.

No, texting a co-worker is not illegal, but your employer may be able to stop you from doing it, especially if you work for a private company and not government. Mostly the issue would be if the co-worker didn't want you to text him or her, they would complain and you would be asked to stop because it's bothering them. I think you should do as your employer asks so that they don't fire you, and also treat the co-worker in a little more distant but still friendly way (and only when work causes you to interact or come close to each other) so that you are not seen as retaliating against them for not wanting to communicate with you outside of work. The employer of course will be concerned that there is a sexual harassment type of issue going on and they have an obligation to try to make that stop, even if it is outside of work.
