Is it legal to be suspended for a week for not attending a mandatory meeting at my job that they don't pay you for?

Got suspended in NC for not attending a mandatory meeting that they never pay for and always say the same thing.

North Carolina is an employment-at-will state. You can be suspended or fired for any reason. They may owe you wages for any meeting you are required to attend, but they can suspend or fire you for not attending.
