Is it legal to get paid the same amount despite doing more work?

Asked on Dec 09th, 2013 on Labor and Employment - Michigan
More details to this question:
I'm doing an hourly job at a local fast food place, normally we're supposed to have at least one additional person for my shift to help get stuff done but since we're short on employees lately I've been forced to do all the work intended for 2 people by myself.

It is not illegal, and in fact an opportunity to prove your exceptional worth and being deserving of a raise or promotion.
