Is there anything I can do if I think I was wrongfully terminated?

Asked on Dec 16th, 2012 on Labor and Employment - Washington
More details to this question:
Friday, I was threatened at work by another employee. They threatened to beat me up and have me taken out because they knew people who could do it. I filed a police report. I was scheduled to work on Saturday with that employee. Another employee and I told my supervisor on Friday that I could not work with the employee that threatened me. She told me I would be fired if I did not come in on Saturday. I did not go to work. When I called about my check, I was informed that I was fired. The other employee was not reprimanded in any way, even though the supervisor heard her threaten me. When I made the report, the police officer advised that I not go in on Saturday.

It all depends on whether you were the victim of discrimination. If you were treated differently then your co-worker for a reason like your race, national origin, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, etc. you may be protected and you should contact the EEOC about making a charge of discrimination.

In GA, there is no cause of action for wrongful termination. This is based on a doctrine known as EMPLOYMENT AT WILL. Based on what you say, you should receive unemployment benefits, but you likely will be denied at the initial level, and you will need an attorney to win your hearing.
