More details to this question:
paid salary based on 40 hours. some times i am required to work in excess of 40 hours. am i required to work these hours for free or should they be paid time and a half, as i beleve?

If you are paid on an hourly basis, you are non-exempt and should be paid overtime. If you are paid a salary, you may be exempt depending on your duties.
