QUESTION

Severance Package

Asked on Dec 08th, 2014 on Employment Contracts - North Carolina
More details to this question:
I just recently been laid off from my job. They offered me a severance package, but I was informed that I couldn't receive the full amount because of a new law that states I can only receive half of it if I accept it all at once. Is this true?

Companies are under no obligation to offer you any severance.  As such, they can put any limitation on the severance that they want.  However, to your specific question, I am not aware of any law that limits severance (assuming that it is truly severance.)
