QUESTION

Should I be compensated for my commute during training?

Asked on Aug 17th, 2014 on Labor and Employment - California
More details to this question:
I just got hired by a company. My principal work site is at location A. I was just notified that for the next 9 weeks, I will need to attend training, 5 days a week, at location B, which is 30 miles away. Upon completion of training, I will return to location A to resume my principal work. Am I entitled to compensation while commuting to and from location B?

You're probably not entitled to compensation for the commute. If they require you to come to location A first each day and send you from there to location B, then you would be compensated for the travel. If they're asking you to report directly to location B each day, then you would not be compensated for the travel.

Not unless you are required to appear at Location A each day before going to Location B. Your home-work-home travel is not compensable. Only work-work travel is required to be compensated.
