QUESTION

What can I do about a retail customer making false claims?

Asked on May 29th, 2014 on Labor and Employment - Texas
More details to this question:
I have a customer who has been verbally abusive. I am an assistant manager paid hourly. He made a false claim that I swore at him. The company is siding with him and wanting to discipline me and possibly fire me. He coerced people to make false claims also. Can I file a civil suit against the customer? Or employer?

One can sue a customer but that is quite unusual. And, of course, employers get sued all the time, but generally, to have a viable claim against an employer, a person's lawsuit needs to be based on illegal discrimination or violation of another law.
