QUESTION

Will an unused ITIN cause any issues on getting an EIN?

Asked on Jul 28th, 2015 on Labor and Employment - New York
More details to this question:
I am an undocumented immigrant and I'm starting a new business in here. My problem is I have an ITIN for 5 years and I've never used it. Now I am about to start a new business and I want to apply for an EIN, but, I am worried if this is going to create a problem for me because my ITIN has never been used. Do you have any advice for me on what if any challenges I may face because of this? I'm still hoping that this isn't an issue and I can go ahead with my business. I will greatly appreciate your helpful comments.

You need to discuss it with an attorney. However, the tax number for your firm is different from your personal tax ID. But again, it is best if you meet with a lawyer.
