QUESTION

Wrongful Job termination

Asked on May 30th, 2013 on Employment Contracts - North Carolina
More details to this question:
A month ago, when I was working, I was talking to a customer when I said the words "Jesus Christ." Not even twenty minutes later, I was fired because I was told Jesus Christ was a form of abusive language. It was never pointed out to me in the employee handbook and I wasn't given any warning about what would happen if I said it. I have tried unemployment but I was denied. Is there something I can do?

You should appeal the decision to deny your unemployment.  Retain an attorney to represent you at the hearing.  If this was a one time thing, you have a good chance of winning some benefits with a good attorney's help.  Aside from unemployment, there does not seem to be anything else you can do.  An employer in NC can fire you for any reason as long as there is not an unlawful motive for the termination.  Nothing in the facts you gave suggest an unlawful motive.
