QUESTION

wrongful termination

Asked on Jun 20th, 2013 on Wrongful Termination - Ohio
More details to this question:
I have a 16 year old that was suspended for what they called theft they had no proof he stole the money, they searched him told him to give them the money they know he took, mad him sign a form stating that he wouldnt discuss the issue outside of the job. when I called to ask what happen they never called me back. after I contactex HR they decided to terminate him. After I questioned thw termination they said he validated to rules, my issue is why wasnt he terminated instead of being suspended. Come to find out the register was only 10 off not 200. They never called back to even let us know. while he was suspended they continued to put him on the schedule. Do I have a class to take them to court? this was my son's first job... they gave him a bad perception of working! No one knew he was suspended but the manager that did it, he never notifed anyone else and they took $8 from him and never returned it until I questioned it.

Ohio is an at will employment state so an employee can be terminated for any reason or not reason at all, just not an illegal reason. Do you believe your son was targeted because of his race, sex, disability (if he has one or is perceived as having one), etc? If so you might have a case. You should contact an employment lawyer who represents employees against their employers. I can be reached at 6149491181. Matthew Coffman
