More details to this question:
I had a civil suit in CA. After a year my lawyer gave me my 'file' back. Upon going through the mountains of paperwork, I found a settlement agreement signed and dated for 30,000 more than I was told we got. WHat can I do??????

Sounds like you may have a claim for fraud against your former attorney. If indeed the case settled for $30,000 more than you were told and that amount was paid to your attorney you would definitely have a claim.
