QUESTION

Are teachers allowed to unlawfully seize students property?

Asked on May 29th, 2016 on Litigation - New York
More details to this question:
My son had his phone out during class, and it got taken away, which is reasonable. However, during the rest of the class, the phone rang over 3 times, and he asked the teacher if he could answer it, thinking it may be an emergency. The teacher refused to let him answer and ended up taking the phone away for 2 days without my permission. Is any of this legal?
