More details to this question:
my boyfriend and i have been in a relationship (living together for 12 yrs). approximately 8 yrs ago I used a litigation attorney related to my then employer. Since then my boyfriend has used the same attorney for some of his business issues. Now we have separated; my x wants to use the same attorney to represent him in our property dispute. Can he? Or would it be a conflict of interest?

This is an issue that you can discuss with the attorney who you retain to defend you. If the attorney believes that there is a conflict  you could make a motion to the court to disqualify your former boyfriend's  attorney.

It's probably not a conflict - unless the attorney has confidential information which came from you relating to the disputed property.
