QUESTION

Can a lawyer withdraw from representation in the middle of a case?

Asked on Apr 15th, 2017 on Civil Litigation - New Jersey
More details to this question:
There is a current balance owed to the law firm but there is a promise to pay. I've been notified that if the arrears are not made current the lawyer will withdraw mid case. The case is in civil court and deals with post divorce matters and the former marital residence.

General answer is "yes" but it depends on the case's specifics. It frequently depends on how close you are to a trial or hearing. Sometimes the attorney has to ask the judge for permission. Edward Zohn, Attorney at Law 908.791.0312
