Can I cancel a donation I already agreed to?

More details to this question:
I got a call from the Firefighter Charitable Foundation. I told them I would send a check of $45. They said they will send me an envelope and something about a gold standard thing to put on my car? I looked them up after the call and found out some things that I didn't like. I sent them an email to cancel the donation and I called and left a message as well. Do I still have to "donate" because I have already agreed to do so?
