Can I get in trouble if an elderly woman I took care of gave me a check for Christmas and her daughter wants to press charges?

More details to this question:
I took care of a woman at a nursing home. she went home and wanted me to come visit I did and she insisted on giving me a rather large check for Christmas. I took it and now shes back at the nursing home I work at for rehab and her daughter reported me and wants to press charges. the woman is in her right mind and knows what shes doing. I never asked her for anything. she wanted to give me the check. Now her daughter is mad and wants the money back and is calling the police.
That is a tough one. You should hold on to the money and not spend it, in the event anything happens. I am not sure the police will want to be involved unless this is a forged check or she was totally incompetent when this happened. If it is more worth holding on to the check than it is just returning the money, talk to a lawyer. If you are still employed at the same nursing home, I have concerns of what your employer think, and do.
