Can you be sued twice for the same thing?

More details to this question:
i was sued in 2001 and a judgement was entered and now they have sold the debt and are trying to sue me again in 2013. The statue of limitations has surely passed.

The existence of a judgment bars suit on the same debt. However, the judgment itself subsists (if unsatisfied) and can be sued upon or otherwise collected.
