QUESTION

Character/Fitness in applying to law school

Asked on Sep 23rd, 2014 on Civil Litigation - Wisconsin
More details to this question:
If I was involved in a sexual assault (as the victim) and pursued a civil case. Nothing went to "trial" or anything - but I did receive money for a settlement. Do I need to state this on the character/fitness portion of my Law School Application? It is a Y/N Question saying "Have you ever been a party to or are you presently a party to any civil action or administrative proceeding? (This does not include divorce or dissolution.) " Then of course I would have to send something in to each Law School explaining it... Please let me know, I don't want to accidentally lie by writing no and I don't want to accidentally screw myself by writing yes if that's not what they're asking! Thank you in advance!

Wow, I didn't realize they were asking this sort of thing in law school applications these days.  It does not seem right to me that an applicant is being asked for such personal information.  Nevertheless, your situation does seem to fit squarely within the question; if you answered "no", you would be lying.
