QUESTION

Does bankruptcy protect me against future judgements?

Asked on Jun 29th, 2014 on Civil Litigation - Connecticut
More details to this question:
I received a bankruptcy discharge 5 months ago. I am currently being sued in an unrelated matter to any of the creditors discharged. It is a civil case seeking monetary damages from me. If the judgment is granted to the plaintiff, will my existing bankruptcy protect me - so that I don't have to pay the damages? Thank you.

No, a discharge in bankruptcy only discharges those debts which are dischargeable (not all obligations are dischargeable, for example fraud liability is not dischargeable) and are listed in the bankruptcy petition.  If this obligation wasn't listed, it wasn't discharged.
