Does SOL apply to a lawsuit in progress?

More details to this question:
back in June a credit card company filed a suit, I submitted an answer, nothing more ever came until this month December 2014. This month is now 30 days past SOL for this account, does this matter? or can they still sue since they started the suit before SOL came due.

Statutes of limitations provide periods by which suit must be commenced. Once the action has been started, it can, and often does, run past what would have been the limitations period.
