More details to this question:
I have been living with my boyfriend for 8 months. He passed away and now his family has taken over his business and the home we shared together. I have not been allowed back in to get my personal belongings. What rights do I have or how do I go about getting me and my children's things?

Get a lawyer and sue them for return of the items or damages if they got rid of them.

You sue them for the return of your personal property and possibly for damages for beings jerks and depriving you of the use of your property. It would be a stretch but you may also be able to have them arrested for larceny by conversion.

I suppose you could sue to recover your goods or file a claim in the estate. Perhaps the easiest way is to contact an attorney who deals in probate and see if a letter or a phone call will get you the relief you seek.

Speak with the executor of his estate in trying to arrange a time when you could go in, probably with somebody who also represents his estate, and to retrieve your items. If not allowed to do some, or if certain items are denied you, then you should see an attorney and consider either filing some form of action against the estate or making a claim to the estate for the property which you do not believe it owns.

You were a tenant in his home (even if you did not pay rent)Write a Letter and mail it, keep a copy, Demanding that they release your belongings immediately or you will sue them for illegal eviction, conversion of your belongings, and damages. Then contact an attorney You may have other rights.. check out the "Michigan Landlord Tenant Handbook" and check out the section on self help.. you were a tenant and by kicking you out without eviction proceedings his heirs are mostly likely at fault and liable for damages.
